Jamaica Termite Prevention, Protection, & Extermination
Our very Aggressive ChiChi (Termites) have no Climatic limitations to soil underneath structures. Termites in Jamaica travel (swarm) above ground around light bulbs All Year as rain flies. They are not limited to nesting or traveling in deep soil to avoid frost as they are in North America. Unfortunately, this is where our treatment application guidelines originate.
Most times there is no need for them to travel back to soil between feedings to reach their nests. They also spread by flying above the best ground treatments to build nests inside furniture, roofs etc.
Rain flies form above-ground-nests (AGN) called "aerial colonies" in walls, under staircases, in and under cupboards and even on tree limbs. These independent nests are constructed and survive unconnected to ground–contact if there was a moisture source available at any time above ground during these swarmings. Inside structures, these sources of moisture would be from temporary flooding, pvc ducts, water tanks on roofs, the slightest leak in roofs, inner wall plumbing leaks in kitchens, bathrooms or AC condensation that dampens walls and wood. In any event, our humid, dark block walls provide ideal nesting areas year round. When the nest is fully established they generate their own moisture... (even in arid deserts) when the original source of moisture dries up. Termite pellets may be formed as these non–soil termites establish themselves in furniture, paintings and books. When this is evident and termites are embedded with eggs and nest in wood and walls, fumigation is the surest coarse of action.
